Community Engagement

Building a movement that empowers communities to solve problems locally and reduces dependence on federal solutions.

The Problem

America has become increasingly dependent on distant, one-size-fits-all federal solutions to local problems. This approach has weakened community bonds, reduced local innovation, and created ineffective programs that fail to address the unique needs of diverse communities.

Centralized power has diminished the role of families, neighborhoods, religious institutions, and local organizations that traditionally served as the backbone of American communities and provided tailored solutions to local challenges.

Our Vision

We envision a revitalization of America's communities through increased local problem-solving, volunteerism, and civic participation. A nation where people work together to address challenges in their neighborhoods rather than waiting for distant bureaucracies to act.

Our approach emphasizes subsidiarity—the principle that matters should be handled by the smallest, lowest, or least centralized competent authority—while supporting local communities with the tools and resources they need to thrive.

Key Initiatives

Local Empowerment

Return decision-making authority to local communities by reducing federal mandates and converting categorical grants to block grants with fewer restrictions. Create a framework for federal agencies to regularly evaluate which functions could be better performed at the state or local level.

Civic Innovation

Develop a national platform for sharing successful community-based solutions to common challenges. Create competitive grants for local organizations to test and implement innovative approaches to education, poverty reduction, environmental protection, and other key areas.

Volunteer Mobilization

Expand tax incentives for charitable giving and volunteering. Create a national service platform that connects volunteers with local organizations in need of assistance. Support the development of community service programs in schools and universities.

Public-Private Partnerships

Facilitate partnerships between local governments, businesses, non-profits, and community organizations to address complex challenges. Remove regulatory barriers that prevent innovative collaborations and provide seed funding for promising public-private initiatives.

Family Support

Strengthen families through policies that support parents' rights, work-life balance, and financial stability. Reform tax policies to reduce marriage penalties and increase child tax credits. Support community-based programs that provide resources and mentoring to families in need.

  • Increased civic engagement and volunteerism at the local level
  • More effective and tailored solutions to community challenges
  • Stronger social bonds and reduced isolation within communities
  • Greater innovation in addressing persistent social problems
  • Reduced dependence on federal programs and bureaucracies
